New York, New York

New York is the most populated city in the United States. It is the center of the New York metropolitan area which is one of the most populous metropolitan areas in the world. As well, it is a leading global city. New York exerts a powerful influence over global commerce, finance, media, culture, art, fashion, research, education, and entertainment.

We think our city is very important because not only is New York home to one of the fashion capitals of the world and vibrant cultures, it is also recognized for its political standings as the host of the United Nations Headquarters. This makes it a vital center for international affairs.

Our beautiful city is located on a large natural harbor on the Atlantic coast of the Northeastern United States. It consists of five boroughs: The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island. Its population is around 8.4 million, with a land area of 305 square miles.

New York has many landmarks and districts that have become very well known to outsiders. Some of these include, The Statue of Liberty, Times Square, Empire State Building, the Broadway theater, Wall Street, Canal Street, Grand Central, Central Park, the Met, and many others.

New York vies with London as the financial capital of the world and is home to the New York Stock Exchange, which is the world’s largest stock exchange by market capitalization of its listed companies. As well, it has world-class schools and universities such as Columbia University and New York University.

One thing we love about NY is the shopping. From the iconic Tiffany’s jewelry on 5th avenue to the knock-off designer purses on Canal. From the beautiful Soho to the artsy Greenwich village.   Don’t forget New York is also home to every girls dream wedding dress shop, Kleinfelds, and their dream wedding location...THE PLAZA!

New York City has an enormous traffic problem. New York is so dense that even if it had ten times the amount of road space and parking, those roads would still be filled with traffic.Honking is illegal and you can see signs posted across the city: "DON'T HONK — $350 PENALTY." It has practically become the background music of the city. New York's problems are internationally known, not only from the painful tradegy of 9 11, but from it's high crime rate, although it is getting better. The NYPD sends their officers to go around the city and make everyone aware that they are there and watching in order to regulate the crime rate.

All in all, we love our city and everything it offers. It is the city that never sleeps. The lights, the excitement and all the intriguing landscapes and architecture make it one hell of a place. Life in NYC
